EU Energy Policies 18/10/2017 Jean-Pol Poncelet

IPLI Foundation sponsored a symposium event at Catholic University of Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.

IPLI Foundation sponsored this Symposium under the auspices of the Paul-Henri Spaak seminar series in cooperation with the Institute for European Studies at Catholic University of Louvain.  The speaker for this event was Jean-Pol Poncelet, former vice prime minister, minister of defense and minister of energy of Belgium.   Mr. Poncelet delivered an address on the challenges of building common EU energy policies.  He noted the fact that energy policy is a highly sensitive issue for national governments, particularly since it is considered a fundamental element of national sovereignty.  Forging common energy policy is a massive challenge to EU member states, especially since it involves partial delegation of national energy development and energy mix decisions to supranational EU institutions in Brussels.  Mr. Poncelet recently wrote on book on this issue.  Click here for more information on his publication.
