The Future of Europe - Policy in a Changing World 24/01/2017 Dr. Álvaro Pereira, director of OECD country studies and former Minister of Economy of Portugal

On January 24th 2017, Dr. Álvaro Pereira, director of country studies branch in the economics department of the OECD and former Minister of Economy of Portugal, joined the IPLI Foundation to participate in a Paris Speaker Series Symposium. Students, researchers and alumni from Sciences Po Paris were invited to join Dr. Pereira for a talk focused on the challenges of policy making in the current European context.

During this symposium, Dr. Pereira discussed his experience as Portugal's minister of economy from 2011-2013 and he also discussed his current work as director of the country studies branch in the economic department at the OECD in Paris.  Dr. Pereira described the many challenges which policy makers in Europe face as they attempt to create policies which can respond effectively to international economic pressures while simultaneously attempting to maintain nation state interests.
